April 30, 2010 - How to limit freight cost

How to save on Freight Cost – a freight charge from the distribution warehouse to your location is charged on all orders.  This charge varies based on the weight of the order.  All freight companies have a minimum charge.  Therefore, the freight cost for 12 uniforms is only about 10% higher than for one uniform.  The more uniforms purchased at one time will result in the lowest freight cost per set.

April 30, 2010 - How to manage your uniform inventory

Limit team colors – you should consider limiting the number of colors available to your units.  If you teams used four different colors, team shortages and extras can easily be passed from one unit to another.  If you allow 12 different team colors --- any extra uniforms becomes dead inventory, if someone needs a temporary uniform, they will need to order a new one as no other team in the council may have the same color combination.

Carry some inventory – Your District Executive has worked on opening a new soccer unit for the last six weeks.   Now that he has the committee and boys identified, he wants to get them in uniform ASAP.  If the council has a small inventory in youth medium, youth large, and adult small, you would be able to outfit the new unit immediately and then restock.

Guess on the “Big” side – If you decide to carry some limited inventory, remember boys that are Cub Scout age grow quickly…the smaller youth sizes should be purchased sparingly, your parents will appreciate a uniform that is little large if their son can wear it for multiple seasons.

April 30, 2010 - Uniform packing

Uniforms are packed two ways....

The best way to purchase uniforms is as a "set" -- including the Jersey, Short, Socks, and Ball.  You will recieve the best price for sets, as handling and freight cost are much lower, and we pass the savings on to your program.

You may also purchase uniforms as "open stock" --- that is purchase a jersey in any size or color, and the purchase a short in any size or color.  Open stock inventory is much more expensive, takes a great deal of additional handling and freight, and therefore is priced substaintially higher than uniform sets.  The best way to use open stock uniform parts is to replace a lost or outgrown jersey or short as needed to fill in and thus avoiding purchasing a complete new uniform set.

April 30, 2010 - Uniform fabrics

Soccer and Scouting uniforms come in two basic fabrics...Wicking Cloth and Dazzle Cloth.

Initially, the program only offered Dazzle Cloth for uniforms.  In May of 2007, a Wicking Cloth fabric was added to the line.  Wicking Cloth is much cooler for the scouts to wear, as perspiration is "wicked" to the exterior of the garment and cools the body as it evaporates.  There also is the benefit that Wicking Cloth uniforms are less expensive.

April 30, 2010 - Getting the best Delivery

Most Soccer and Scouting orders take approximately two weeks to manufacture, and then two to four days to arrive at your office.  Here are a few ways to insure the best delivery...

1) Wicking Uniform color Gold/Navy is in stock.  This uniform normally ships within 24 hours of order.

2) Plan your program needs ahead.  Place a team order based on average sizes prior to roundup.  Youth Medium, Youth Large, Adult Small are safe sizes used in most programs.  This way you will have most of the uniforms needed for the first practice, and will only need to order a few sets to finish the team.

3) Evaluate your program needs before the season starts....Remember soccer is a popular international sport and the industry does realize some peak seasonal demand.  Delivery can be delayed during back to school or year end due to demand exceeding supply.  Most backorders are cleared up within a week or two, this still adds to your delivery time.  If you plan to start a new program in August/September, consider ordering your initial uniform needs in July.
